Prep Beats Landon to Win IAC Championship

By TJ Prame 02/18/2019, 10:15pm EST

The Hoyas played their IAC rivals this week for the title of champions, taking to the Ice at Rockville where they had previously beaten Landon. Both Teams came out strong, but the Hoya's Patrick Fitzgerald put Prep on the board first late into the first, with a nice unassisted backhand goal. The Hoyas lead would continue into the second period, with both teams putting up numbers of shots but neither team managing to put the puck into the back of the net. The Hoyas played on the defensive when a penalty was given to goalie Elon Granston, served by sophomore Billy Allston, but the Hoyas managed to kill the penalty and keep their advantage going into the third. James Flannery was early to score in the third, giving the Hoyas some more breathing room but was answered later in the period when Landon managed to sneak one past the defense on a power play. The Hoyas managed to keep control of the game until the end, with a last second drive from Landon proving unsuccessful, the Hoyas took home the cup with a 2-1 victory over their rivals. The Hoyas season is not done, however, as they will play Spalding in the first round of the MAHPL playoffs on Tuesday.

Prep Beats St. Albans to move on to IAC finals

By TJ Prame 02/14/2019, 10:45pm EST

Prep took to the ice once again after a weekend break after a long week of games. The Hoyas were faced with the Saint Albans team that they had lost to once before but were playing for a spot in the IAC finals this time around. Prep took an early lead in the first, but Saint Albans was quick to tie it up and take the lead with a 5-minute major penalty. Prep, however, was not done and tied it up 2-2 to finish off the first. The second period was in favor of the Hoyas, with a breakaway goal, along with one more score from both teams. The Hoyas played on the defensive in the 3rd period, and Peter Roche finished the game off for the Hoyas with an empty netter late into the third. The Hoyas move on to face Landon in the IAC finals, and then into the next weeks MAPHL playoffs.

Prep Tops Bullis in Final IAC Game

By Tj Prame 02/05/2019, 11:30pm EST

The Hoyas game against Bullis was rescheduled to this Monday in what will be the first of four games for Prep this week. The Hoyas were on a drought after having both games the previous week cancelled due to inclement weather, and the players were eager to take to the ice once again. The Hoyas came out strong, taking home the first, second and third goals, the first and third scored by James Flannery and the second by Alex Chaconas. Bullis managed the find the back of the net late into the first, but the Hoyas defender Alex Demers was able to score in the final minutes to put the Hoyas at a 4-1 lead going into the second.  Prep dominated the second-period outshooting Bullis 22-5 and scoring 4 times to give the Hoyas a sizeable lead that would carry them to the end of the game, with the final score totaling at 8-3. The Hoyas next game will be one Wednesday the 6th where they will face off against St. Johns.
