About Wolves - WLD, HAM, OAK, CEN, LGR

High school hockey has existed in Howard County since the founding of the Maryland Student Hockey League (MSHL) in 1988. The MSHL started with 9 varsity teams for an abbreviated 1988-89 season. The teams for that initial season were: Atholton, Boys Latin, Centennial, DeMatha, Glenelg (combined with Hammond students as a developmental team), Howard, Mt. St. Joseph, Oakland Mills and Wilde Lake. On January 5, 1989, Maryland high school youth ice hockey became a reality when the first MSHL winter sports season game was played at the Baltimore Arena between Centennial and Oakland Mills. Centennial, Hammond, Oakland Mills and Wilde Lake were four of the original ten MSHL teams for the 1988-89 season. Wilde Lake, Hammond and Oakland Mills formed WHO at the start of the 2011-12 season. Centennial and Long Reach joined Wilde Lake, Hammond and Oakland Mills to form the WOLVES at the start of the 2018-19 season.
