Prep Tops Mt. St. Joe's

Georgetown Prep’s two-goal first period was enough as the Little Hoyas defeated Mt. St. Joseph’s, 3-1, at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel on Monday night.

James Flannery’s first of two goals got Prep on the board 8:33 into the game after taking a pass from Patrick Fitzgerald and scoring from close range. Alex Demers picked up the secondary assist on the play. Less than three minutes later, Alex Chaconas scored unassisted in what turned out to be the game-winner, after he forced a turnover and chipped the puck past Mt. St. Joseph’s goalkeeper Connor Churko.

Ryan Trott and Dusty Ziegler assisted on Matt Adams’ goal at 10:24 of the second, which brought the Gaels to within one, but the home team could not muster the equalizer.

Georgetown Prep peppered Churko with 38 shots on goal, while Prep goaltender Elon Granston made 20 saves on 21 shots.
