With Forest Park/Hylton defeating George Mason/Edison/Hayfield, and W.T. Woodson handling West Springfield, the Quarter-Final round is set… and there are some very intriguing matchups to watch!

Let’s take a closer look…

#1 West Potomac vs #8 Forest Park/Hylton

We all know West Potomac is the three-time defending champion and is the team to beat. However, Forest Park/Hylton is 4-0-1 in their last five games, including an upset in the regular season over a strong Lake Braddock team. Is FP/H peaking at the right time? Can they be the team that dethrones the mighty Wolverines?

#2 Colgan vs #7 W.T. Woodson

While Colgan finished the regular season as the top team in the South Division and with only two losses, one of those losses came at the hands of W.T. Woodson. It was way back in October that Woodson defeated the Sharks, 3-1. Colgan outshot Woodson that game 45 to 23, but stellar goaltending by the Cavaliers was ultimately the difference. Will the Cavaliers be able to pull off the upset, or will the Sharks avenge one of the regular season losses?

#3 T.C. Williams vs #6 Robinson

T.C. Williams had an outstanding regular season, finishing second place in the North Division. The Titans had outstanding goaltending in the regular season, allowing 2.60 goals against per game, which was second-best to only West Potomac. Offensively, they are led by Jason Townsend, who finished #4 in points during the regular season. Robinson boasts one of the best goal scorers in the league in center William Yao, who finished the regular season with 12 goals in just 8 games. However, after a fast start, the Rams have won only one of their past five games, going 1-3-1 down the stretch.

#4 Lake Braddock vs #5 Washington-Lee

If the Bruins and the Generals keep meeting like this, there will be a new rivalry taking hold. Last year in the quarter-final round, the Bruins won a thrilling game in a shootout to advance. This year, the teams enter as the #1 and #2 scoring teams in the league, as the Bruins netted 52 goals in the 10 game regular season, while the Generals lit the lamp 50 times. Offensively, Lake Braddock is deep, having four players finish the regular season with double-digit points, and two more skaters finished with nine points each. For the Generals, Jack Stanley finished the regular season number one in assists and total points, and number two in goals to teammate Logan Ehrlich, who also finished tied for second in the league in points. Ned Huffman finished in the top-10 in all three scoring categories as well. While both teams bring a lot of firepower, there is a good chance that goaltending decides this matchup. Riley Burch, the Bruins netminder, quietly led all goalies with six wins and finished number three in goals against average with 2.11. Expect this game to be as tight as last year’s contest.

All four Quarter-Final games will be played on Friday, February 23rd.
