For the second straight MAPHL game the Hoyas found themselves behind early as they struggled to get going out of the gate. The Hoyas spent most of the first period in their own zone, and were fortunate to only give up one goal before the end of the period. Less than a minute into the second period Spalding struck again to extend their lead. The Hoyas finally began to sense some urgency and cut the lead in half with a big goal by Pat Fitzgerald from Alex Chaconas and Connor McMahon. Although the Hoyas dominated time of possession and nearly doubled up Spalding in the number of shots, Spalding was able to score twice more to extend the lead to 4-1. The Hoyas would start off on the comeback trail late in the second with a power play deflection goal by Pat Fitzgerald assisted by Daniel Cole. During the middle of the second the Hoyas would find the back of the net again with a goal by Alex Chaconas assisted by Michael Davidson on the power play to cut the lead to one. With less than two minutes remaining and the Hoyas buzzing in the offensive zone Daniel Cole tied it with an assist by Alex Chaconas and Jack Donovan. The Hoyas looked like they were going to come away with a valuable point in the MAPHL standings until Spalding scored with 40 seconds left to stun the Hoyas. The Hoyas move on to rivalry week with two IAC/MAPHL matchups against St. Alban’s on Tuesday and Landon on Friday.
