The St. John’s Cadets (7-1-1 MAPHL) scored two late third-period goals to take a 3-2 lead only to see Landon’s (6-2-2 MAPHL) Matt Brille tally with 28 seconds left to tie the hard-fought game on Friday night at Rockville Ice Arena.

After a scoreless first period in which both goalies made several quality saves, St. John’s struck first on the power play at 6:25 of the second period after Tommy Kenary was called for a five-minute major penalty for charging. Tommy Lokken fed Dimitry Kebreau at the right face-off circle and Kebreau got off a quick snapshot that whizzed by Landon goalie Max Weinstein’s glove.

Brille countered just over a minute later when he capitalized on a shorthanded breakaway, beating St. John’s goalie Trevor Ziffer with a wrist shot high to his glove slide. Ryan Giles gave Landon a 2-1 lead with 30 seconds left in the second period and just after a two-man, power-play advantage expired.  Giles ripped a snapshot from the right circle after a cross-ice pass from JH Lages.

After Landon’s Will Lawrence nearly gave the Bears a 3-1 lead with a spectacular individual effort, Lokken raced down the ice in a counter attack and scored on a partial break away to tie the score at 9:16 of the third period. The Cadets went ahead on the power play when Kebreau’s shot from the blueline ricocheted to Tyler Rose, who put his sharp angle shot behind Weinstein with 3:41 left in the game and setting up Brille’s game-tying score.

Weinstein made 24 saves on 27 shots, while Ziffer stopped 32 of 35 shots on goal.

Dimitry Kebreau had a goal and an assist in St. John's 3-3 tie with Landon on Friday night at Rockville Ice Arena.

Matt Brille scored two goals, including the game-tying tally with 28 seconds left in the third period.
