Led by Patrick Giles' five points (3 goals, 2 assists), the #3 Landon Bears proved why they have won four MAPHL titles in the last six years--and back-to-back championships--when they outclassed #1 Gonzaga, 8-1, in the MAPHL "AA" final on Friday night at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel.

In the highly anticipated battle between two of the top teams in the Washington area, it was the Bears that jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period.  Brian Jordan opened the scoring at 7:31 with Landon on the power play, firing a slap shot from the point on a pass from Giles.

Giles scored his first goal just over a minute later with the Bears shorthanded, chipping the puck past a Gonzaga defender at his own blue line, racing down the ice and burying his break away shot..

With the Eagles still reeling, Giles struck again at 10:47 when he ripped a wrist shot from the slot into the top corner, over Gonzaga goalie Jalen Green's glove.

Landon did not sit on the lead, but Gonzaga almost got back in the game when Mackie Wheeler hit the crossbar in the opening minutes of the second period while the Eagles were on the power play.

Giles completed his natural hat trick when he scored unassisted after a scramble in front of the net at 4:31 of the second.  Michael Soraci made the score 5-0, with another superb wrist shot from the slot that beat Gonzaga's goalie high on the glove side. Drennan Greene got the lone assist on the power play goal.

Landon's Spencer Davis scored at 12:04 to give the Bears a 6-0 lead going into the final period.

Gonzaga's Jack Sanborn broke up Landon goalie Jack Concannon's shutout bid with the Eagle's only tally at 3:35 of the third period. But any thought of a miracle comeback were quickly extinguished when Landon's Cole Gibson scored 1:40 seconds later to put the Bears up, 7-1. Henry Chiperfield made the score 8-1 to complete Landon's thrashing of its rival.

#3 Landon overwhelmed #1 Gonzaga, 8-1, to repeat as MAPHL "AA" champion, winning its fourth title in six years.
