While #1 Gonzaga and #4 DeMatha were tied at 2-2 late in the third period of their MAPHL "AA" semifinal game at Ft. Dupont Ice Arena, #3 Landon was cruising past #7 Georgetown Prep, running up a 7-0 score at the second intermission in the other semifinal in Rockville.

Gonzaga's captain Mackey Wheeler broke the tie at 9:16 of the third and Connor Tait's goal just 44 seconds later gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish. Wheeler added an empty net goal for a final score of 5-2.

Two of the six goals Landon scored in the first period were on the power play and they added another power play goal in the second to give themselves a hefty cushion going into the third. Georgetown Prep mounted a brief comeback, scoring at 5:42 and 7:45 of the third period. The Bears responded a little more than a minute later to douse any hope for Prep.

Michael Soraci and Ben Gilbert each scored twice for Landon.

Gonzaga will be playing in the final for the third time in four years, having won the championship in 2013 and 2015. Landon is hoping to repeat after winning in 2015.

Will Boggs saved 23 of 24 shots he faced and Thomas Olson recorded a hat trick in #7 Georgetown Prep's, 5-1, upset victory over #2 St Albans in a MAPHL Quarterfinal game at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel on Wednesday.

Landon smothered Georgetown Prep, 8-2, in Rockville to reach the MAPHL "AA" Championship against Gonzaga.
