The Oakdale High School Ice Hockey Club is a non-profit corporation formed to promote and enhance the education opportunities of students at Oakdale High School (“OHS”). The Club believes the promotion and development of an ice hockey program not only will allow students to expand their horizons by working together in a team effort, but will also improve the general welfare of OHS, its student body, its faculty and the community.
The team is not school-sponsored, nor affiliated with OHS or Frederick County Public Schools. Therefore, all costs associated with playing for the team are the responsibility of the players and club. The team is however, recognized as an official club team by OHS, is open to all eligible OHS students with interest in playing or being part of high school ice hockey, and is subject to all rules, regulations, and policies of club activities at OHS.
School Recognition
1) Participants have an opportunity to earn an OHS athletic letter.
2) The team will be featured in the OHS Yearbook.
3) The games will be reported in the OHS morning announcements
4) Recognized and supported by the Oakdale Athletic Boosters Club
About Oakdale Hockey
Participation is regulated by USA Hockey, the governing body of amateur hockey in the USA. The Varsity team currently plays a competitive 12 game league schedule. As part of the Monocacy Valley Division of the Maryland Student Hockey League (MSHL), the Bears compete against schools such as Urbana, Walkersville, Middletown, Carroll County, Washington County, and Frederick County. In addition, the team competes in the Skate Frederick High School Hockey League, playing primarily on Sunday evenings. All home games are at Skate Frederick.
Eligibility
Any student enrolled at Oakdale High School who maintains a minimum 2.0 GPA with no failing grades is eligible to play. It is strongly recommended that students have previous hockey experience and are familiar with the rules and risks of competitive ice hockey. All players are required to be members of USA Hockey.
